Joyce
Joyce Enders
Sweet Talk Stables is driven by the heart and passion of Joyce Enders. Joyce’s story is truly inspirational as she comes from very humble roots and truly believes people can change their stars. Joyce grew up in the Communities of Dover and Forest Lawn, in Calgary. Her family worked very hard to enjoy one unusal luxury, Joyce’s mom loved to raise and train horses. Living in the city, they always had to board their horses, and from her first memories of horses at the age of 3 there has been no looking back. When Joyce was 12 tragedy struck, her father died suddenly in an accident, leaving her mom to raise her, her bother and her sister alone. Losing almost everthing they could no longer afford the luxury of horses. In a miracle of kindness the owner of the barn they had their horses at let them trade chores in exchange for board. Through the loss of her father and the many other challenges, horses became her sole solace in life.
Flash forward to the year 2000. After many years of boarding, trading chores and renting other peoples riding arenas for teaching lessons and training horses, Joyce and her young family, risked everything to purchase a tiny heritage house on seven acres, build a little outdoor riding arena and in that instant, the dream, “Sweet Talk Stables”, finally had a home. Because of the kindness Joyce was shown when her father passed she built “Sweet Talk Stables” on the foundational belief that everyone should be able to ride and experience the healing power of horses, not just the wealthy or elite. This wasn’t just lip service for Joyce, on a regular basis up to half of Sweet Talk Stables clients were families that would never have been able to experience horses at any level. And everyone was alway treated equally, clients would never know who paid or didn’t pay to be there. Joyce’s mission also included rescuing horses, supplying opportunities for local schools, children’s out reach groups and charities. If that wasn’t enough Joyce always had and continues to have an open door policy, taking in a countless numbers of troubled kids, she always says, “we already have five of our own what difference does a few more make.”
In 2004 an incredible opportunity came along to rent to purchase a complete equestrian facility just down the road. The catch was it was built in the 1980’s and hadn’t been used for years! To most people it looked like a big mess, but to Joyce it was her Cindrella Story. So Joyce risked it all again, and a little bit more, and went for it. Every single thing in it needed to be fixed or repaired but she was finally living the impossible dream. Now she had the ability to help many many more people and horses, all year long, so she did!
On Feb 2nd 2009 tragedy struck again, with the ultrasound for her 5th child, her only boy, Joyce discovered she had cancer. The prognosis was bad, they said she would soon be paralyzed from the waist down and then it would most likely kill her. They said she needed treatment immediately, but when given the choice to try to save herself first over the baby there was no hesitation, “save my baby first”, she said. Even still, at birth the baby’s heart stopped, he ended up on life support, but he made it and now celebrates two birthdays every year. Then shortly after that, Joyce’s cancer surgery went terribly wrong, she also ended up on life support and family said their goodbyes. Like her son, Joyce miraculously pulled through but when she awoke she was told she would be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life and she was bed ridden for the better part of 2 years, requiring full time care. Joyce’s husband, Dan left his career went and went home to take care of her, their five children and the ranch, a family together fighting for survival, during that time they almost lost everything. In the face of it all they managed to keep Sweet Talk Stables barelly alive. Against all odds, Joyce, while permanently disabled and a master at hiding pain, is walking again and has resumed coaching. Joyce is an inspiration for children and adults in every walk of life, especially the ones who have lived through it with her. Losing olympic dreams of riding horses has revived itself into the unconditional giving of herself, her family and Sweet Talk Stables to make history and touch lives on a daily basis.

Joyce is the heart of Sweet Talk Stables.

Dan
Dan Enders
For as long as I can remember, my passions have been People, Science & Art, around 30 years ago I began to realize that a combination of these 3 passions could be united to help people & companies across North America. Starting out at a local newspaper designing ads, I worked my way into some of the largest communications agency networks, working with some of most successful brands in the world, including General Motors, TransAlta, Essential Power, Agrium, Lafarge, Syngenta, CIBC, Old Dutch, Mark’s, Moxies Restaurant, Forzani Group and Canada's largest private Indigenous Group of Companies. I now work with companies to help build their teams and brands while connecting them to the origin of the whole concept of branding with horses and cattle. This unique environment takes you out of the office and back to a lifestyle where a brand actually meant something. A time when peoples word was truth and a handshake was the contract. Travel back to the past with me, build your team and your business in an unforgettable cowboy branding workshop, ride with your company on new trail into the future.
I also strongly believe that in order to be my best I must live a “complete life” and never grow up. Keeping me young and active are my 5 children, four girls and a boy, who all pitch in at “Sweet Talk Stables” where we raise, compete and train people and horses every day. Also keeping me active is competitive beach volleyball, mountain biking, hiking, traveling, and working with my hands on the ranch, creating, fixing and playing with all sorts of buildings, cars, trucks, equipment and dreams. Sun up to sun down..... 24/7/365
